In recent years Open Door City Church has been shifting in its focus from a pastor/teacher leadership paradigm, to an apostolic/prophetic emphasis. This shift stresses the importance for all followers of Christ to develop the gifts they have been given, and regularly take risks in using them to grow in their callings and advance the Kingdom within their spheres of influence. All members are encouraged to hear the Lord's voice, prophesy to others whenever prompted, and become adept in various gift ministries as the Scriptures command (Mark 16:14-18, Romans 12:4-8, I Corinthians 14).
While the roles of pastors and teachers are essential to the development of a supernatural church, at Open Door these callings are networked with, and subordinated to, within a team dynamic, the leadership giftings of the apostle and prophet. (At Open Door the five-fold ministry (apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor and teacher) is networked in a team dynamic. This Scriptural alignment (Ephesians 2:19-22, 4:11-14, I Corinthians 12:27-31), positions the church to more effectively partner with the Spirit's desires for the church, creating an open heaven, while stirring and activating believers to apprehend their destinies, which opens doors. (leave out last sentence?) These conditions unfolding create a prophetic culture.
There are many observable manifestations of the Spirit within a prophetic culture. Several will be listed as examples of human vessels yielding to the Spirit's promptings and creative expressions.
1) Worship leading without lyrics: musicians and vocalists have broken through into leading assemblies using their talents and faith as much as written words and notes.
2) Prophecy as a tool to build: prophesying is not considered to be for the "elite only", but it is for the members to express the heart of God to one another, and to unbelievers as well, in church meetings and in the marketplace.
3) Painting with the Spirit: artists are encouraged to put what they are seeing and hearing onto the canvas during church worship, often capturing with vivid colors and impressions what the Spirit is saying to the Church.
4) Dancing before the Lord: Like painting, dancing and banner waving are well received in corporate praise, and are blessed as legitimate personal expressions of worship.
5) Flowing in the gifts: in a prophetic culture, messages in tongues, interpretation of the same, words of knowledge, and exercising every believer's call to heal, are just a few of the actions of the Spirit working through the Body to bring freedom.
