Men’s Ministry
Welcome to the Men’s Ministry of Open Door City Church. Our mission is to call forth the strengths of the men in our church and to encourage men to use these strengths to help others as we build up the Kingdom of God in our area.
Men’s Breakfast
This monthly gathering is a great way to meet other men in our church and to build long lasting friendships. The fellowship is always good over a hot cooked breakfast. During some of our breakfasts, one of the men leads us in a heart engaging discussion that usually ends in a time of prayer for each other. We have used “The Way of the Wild Heart” by John Eldredge to understand the stages that each of us men encounters as we go through life. We have also used “Every Man’s Battle” to grow in sexual purity. Instead of the discussion time after we have eaten, we also engage in activities to apply our strengths in helping others inside and outside of our church. For example, when we first leased our new offices, the men worked together on various projects to build furniture, fix things, paint and move furniture. The men worked for three hours and got everything done on the list! We are looking for opportunities to band together as men to help a family or situation in our church or in the community. The men love using their strengths and skills to make someone else’s life better.
Recreational Activities
One of the goals of the Men’s Ministry is foster recreational activities that will bring men together around an activity that requires teamwork and excellence. Last summer, we fielded our first men’s softball team. The comradery was great as the men had fun playing softball in a church league. Week after week you could hear the men encouraging each other to do their best, cheering each other on whether at bat or on the field. The previous year, the men played golf together.
Men’s Advance
Annually we join with several other churches to host a Men’s Advance in late summer or fall. Starting on a Friday night, the men gather at a retreat center in East Texas to enjoy outstanding worship, challenging teaching, encouraging fellowship, recreational activities and lots of good food. The activities continue on Saturday and end at noon on Sunday. Men have gotten saved, healed, delivered and transformed during these powerful weekends. Physical and emotional healings have taken place. Many new friendships have begun during these Advances.
Gary Lindenberger and John Leonardson head up the Men’s Ministry.
