This little-known female evangelist was a 19th and early 20th century spiritual pioneer whose demonstration of the raw power of God has seldom since been witnessed or felt in North America. Her determination to break into ungodly territory with the Gospel, or stir up cities where churches were lifeless, is a model of great faith and risk-taking. The amazing and unusual gifts of discernment, healing, and miracles which accompanied her forty-year ministry, are a "high-water mark" for today's revivalists.
Open Door City Church honors Maria for her obedience to go to the lost, as a woman, at a time when only men were in leadership, and for her place in history as a spiritual mother to the Pentecostal/Charismatic church. We treasure the growing understanding of her influence, and seek to walk into the inheritance she left to all followers of Jesus.
